TEA: A beverage made by brewing the young leaves of the tea plant in boiling water. Tea apparently originated in southern INDIA or Ceylon. From there it made its way to CHINA and to JAPAN in 1191. Under the SAMURAI, a strict etiquette influenced by ZEN BUDDHISM dictated the proper way to serve and drink tea in a special tea ceremony.
